Festivals Coming Up in 2013
34th Montreal International Jazz Festival
The 2013 edition will be dedicated to great pianist and composer Dave Brubeck, who had a long history with the Festival. Tickets are on sale now. Highlights include performances by a wide range of artists encompassing jazz, blues, world music and beyond: Aretha Franklin, Wayne Shorter, Chucho Valdés, George Benson, Oliver Jones, Wynton Marsalis, Joshua Redman, John Abercrombie, Ravi Coltrane, Bill Frisell, Holly Cole, Trombone Shorty, Caravan Palace, Jason Moran doing a Fats Waller Dance Party, Nikki Yanofsky, Joel Miller, Gregory Porter, Lyle Lovett and Chris Isaak, Boz Scaggs, Dr. John & The Nite Trippers and Leon Russell, and so many more. The Invitation TD series includes a pair of three-night runs hosted first by Charles Lloyd, then by Vijay Iyer. ************************************************************************************************************* The DC Jazz Festival DC Jazz Festival and CapitalBop Announce 2013 D.C. Jazz Loft Series Innovative 3-Night Series Returns for its 3rd Year with Major Blowout Finale The D.C. Jazz Loft Series, a partnership between the DC Jazz Festival (DCJF) and CapitalBop, will return this year with performances from world-renowned, boundary-pushing artists aimed at engaging the Festival’s younger, musically inquisitive audience. The three-night series includes innovative shows at alternative DIY venues as part of the DCJF’s Jazz in the ‘Hoods presented by Events DC. All of the concerts pair famous artists from around the world with some of D.C.’s best musicians. World-renowned performers include German saxophonist Peter Brötzmann, one of the most influential free-jazz musicians on the planet, in a duo with fellow experimental eminence Joe McPhee; Gerald Cleaver, an avant-jazz drummer and composer, with his all-star quintet Black Host; and ERIMAJ and the Karriem Riggins Quartet, two groups at the fore of merging hip-hop and rock with jazz, both of whom will perform at the D.C. Jazz Loft Series Blowout Show on June 15.
